How Your Body Uses Fat
A person’s body is a wonderful machine and does wonderful things. It breathes automatically. It changes food we eat into living tissue. It creates the growth of flesh, blood, bones and teeth. And it even has an automatic thermostat that will keep our body temperature at a perfect 98.6⁰F.
But, it does one thing better than all others…it tries to protects itself from harm or injury each and every hour of the day.
So, when people look to lose weight and their first inclination is to cut down on the foods they have been putting into their body, they are sabotaging themselves.
Less food does not always equal more weight loss.
As people age, gravity takes over. Parts that used to be
north of the belt line have started to commute south taking on a shape of their very own. As the heavier one gets, the slower the body’s metabolism becomes.
Skipping meals and eliminating food all together will create a downward spiral towards weight gain.
So, let’s understand one thing, cutting down on calories won’t lead to fat loss.
Secret to Weight Loss: Eat MORE to Lose More
What is wrong with cutting calories?
Think of it this way, when the body feels as if it is starving, it goes into a sort of “survival mode.” Since the systems of the body are designed to protect itself, it won’t be able to recognize that you are only taking in less food. It will think you are trying to destroy yourself.
As the days go on, if you continue on the path of skipping meals, your metabolism will start to slow and your body will become very efficient at storing fat.
Sure, initially you will see a small amount of weight loss. You can be certain that it won’t be fat loss. Your body will just begin cannibalizing its very own muscle tissue. That’s the very same tissue that you will need to burn fat. (Even though a person chooses not to feed the body, it still has to find ways to live.)
By destroying this calorie burning tissue (lean muscle), your body will now have a new starting point where it will require fewer calories to keep the metabolism going.
How to get out of this belt tightening spot?
As soon as you feel as if you need to lose weight and that thought of skipping meals pops into your head, think of another option.
Rational thinking would call for a sound plan of action. (Eating properly, exercising, and doing a little bit of aerobic exercise.) Yet, when it comes to the battle of the bulge, irrational thinking always wins out.
If you only look across our vast country and see how the diet industry has destroyed our sense of reality, no one would be dieting.
Believing that cutting calories to lose weight is tempting, but it just doesn’t work!
It didn’t work in the 70’s. It didn’t work in the 80’s. It didn’t work in the 90’s. And it’s not working today. If it did, wouldn’t that first diet you tried have worked long ago?
