Disclaimer: What you are about to read might disgust you, shock you or make you want to kick someone’s butt. We at Fit Over 40 in no way dislike fat people, mock them, or think of them as second class citizens. We don’t however encourage LAZY, FREELOADING FAT FAMILIES WHO STEAL MONEY OUT OF OUR POCKETS SO THEY CAN SIT ON THEIR ASS AND EAT UNTIL THEY BURST.
I was surfing the net the other day and I came across an article in the Telegraph, a London. newspaper. When I first read it I laughed because it sounded so funny. But as I looked over it again, my humor turned to anger.
Apparently a family from Blackburn, in Great Britain, called the “Chawner’s” has claimed that they are “Too Fat to Work!” And if that wasn’t bad enough, they are also saying that the £22,000 (that’s about $31,464) worth of benefits wasn’t enough for them.
The article goes on to say that the combined weight for the family of four is approximately 1162 pounds. The husband and wife weigh in at a svelte 336 pounds; their nineteen year old daughter weighs 232 pounds and twenty-one year year old daughter weights 252 pounds.
CAN YOU SAY, “STEP AWAY FROM THE TABLE?”
These poor excuses for human beings have the nerve to say that their $31,464 a year in benefits is about the same amount as the take home pay from a $43,000 salary.
Mr Chawner exact quote was: “What we get barely covers the bills and puts food on the table. It’s not our fault we can’t work. We deserve more.”
Mr. and Mrs. Chubby and their two twins, “Fat One and Fat Two”, claim to spend around $71.50 a week on food and eat about 3,000 calories each and every day. Considering that the maximum recommended caloric intake for women is 2,000 calories and 2,500 calories for men, I’d say it’s safe to say that they need to “Just Say No” sometimes. Don’t you think?
Their main problem is that they are eating unhealthy, junky foods for breakfast lunch and dinner.
JUSTIFICATION OR JUST DENIAL?
As I read through the article it got even more preposterous.
The lovely Mrs. stated that the reason they are so fat is because it’s in their genes.
I bet the only thing you’d find in their jeans would be a couple extra donuts.
She then went on to say that “all that healthy food, like fruit and vegetables, is too expensive!”
These people sound like they would be great walking billboards for any greasy spoon restaurant or fast food joint.
Hello??? (The lights are on, but I don’t think that anyone is home!)
How about taking a walk around the block a few times? Maybe picking up some light weights? Riding a bicycle? Taking a swim. Do some gardening. Or just try being a little more active????
But instead this family sits on their butts and collects income support.
Let’s add it up:
Mrs. Chawner receives $253 in support and incapacity benefits.
She also receives an extra $472 a month as a disability allowance for epilepsy and asthma. These two issues are a result of her being overweight.
Mr. Chawner gets $102 a month thanks to him developing Type 2 diabetetes because he can’t seem to keep from putting food in his mouth and doing absolutely nothing active.
The one daughter gets about $120 every two weeks in something called “Jobseekers’ Allowance”. The other of the terrible two, who is at least trying to work as a hairdresser, gets $83 every two weeks under a hardship fund for low-income students.
LIKE MOTHER…LIKE DAUGHTER
The youngest daughter seems to be speaking right out of the “it’s everyone elses’ fault I’m fat…not me” manual because she was quoted as saying; “I’m a student and don’t have time to exercise.”
I only wish I had access to these people or could put them in touch with a few health and fitness professionals who could educate them on how destructive their paths are.
Being overweight is no laughing matter. There are so many problems people will face when they get to this situation. The easiest thing to say would be to just don’t go there.
But, many people find themselves working longer hours, making poor food choices and neglecting their bodies by doing absolutely no exercise.
If you, or anyone you know is falling into a similar footsteps as the Chawner family, encourage them in a nice way to seek help.
I’ve found that educating someone on the benefits of proper nutrition, having a concern for muscle and doing a moderate amount of aerobic exercise usually gets them on the path towards good health.
No one should ever just give up on themselves and expect everyone else to bail them out.
If you’ve gotten yourself into this situation, you need to find a way out.
Ask for help…not a handout.
