Often people will set out on a mission to get fit, lean and healthy and come running out of the gates full steam ahead. They have every intention of succeeding and are ready to show off their amazing looking body. Unfortunately, they run out of gas right after they take the first few steps.
How does this happen? What can be done to avoid the errors of following misleading information?
Let’s examine three common Fat Loss Mistakes that everyone should avoid.
Mistake # 1
Too much low intensity steady state cardio Simply stepping foot on a treadmill and running forever is a sure sign of a poorly designed fat loss routine.
Here’s a little secret…it’s an inefficient form of exercise that doesn’t burn a lot of calories. When fat loss is the goal, you don’t want to be “efficient” you want to make your body work harder. Your time is valuable. Step away from the cardio! Grab some weights and include interval training in your program.
Mistake # 2
Light weights and extreme reps A good intentioned idea ran amuck. Unless you are trying to be a bodybuilder; (most people don’t have the discipline, time or know- how); get this crazy idea out of your head. High reps, light weights, isolated exercises WILL NOT help you lose weight. Think about working your entire body emphasizing multi-joint exercises using heavier weights and fewer reps. The more cumulative lean muscle tissue your body has will be the determining factor on how much fat you will lose.
Mistake #3
Under eating So many people feel the need to deprive their body of food in order to lose weight. Unfortunately, it couldn’t be the furthest thing from the truth. Denying your body of food will force itself to cannibalize your muscle tissue just to keep the internal organs functioning. Your body fat won’t be touched. You’ll end up losing the very substance that truly determines whether or not you will turn your body into a fat burning machine…muscle!
Learn from past mistakes
You certainly don’t have to repeat the mistakes so many people have already made. From the very start, you should understand how fat is produced, become educated on how to lose it properly and invest in yourself by hiring a fitness professional who could help accelerate your progress.
In doing so, you are one step ahead of the weight gain game and will be prepared to make your body something people will envy instead of snicker at.
Good luck!
