Questions Asked…Questions Answered!
“The person who gets the farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare. The sure-thing boat never gets far from shore.”–Dale Carnegie
The secret to a long and healthy life is always knowing a little bit more than the other guy/gal. Well that requires constant reflection, long term vision and solid plan of action. Finding solutions to have successful goals means asking lots and lots of questions.
You may have wondered why I haven’t been posting this forum for a few weeks. It’s because I’m not getting enough questions. Don’t be shy…ask me something…anything…just let me know you are alive and making progress.
If you have a question that you would like me to answer in an upcoming blog, please feel free to submit your comments at the bottom of this post and I will do my best to respond to them.
Q. Does spending lots of hours a week doing slow, long-duration cardio to burn the fat covering your abs???…
A. Let me answer this as simple as possible…NO!!!
There has been both scientific research and a number of case studies that have proven that aerobic exercise (most people call it “cardio”) training for the purposes of losing fat alone will not work. So, get off the damn treadmill and pick up some weights. Training the entire body with varying levels of intensity (increasing weights, changing duration, fluctuating speed) is the where the ground work should begin for any serious fat loss plan. You’ll be amazed how quickly the fat will burn off. As an additional way to truly ramp up your metabolism, perform both resistance interval training and cardio interval training and you will get even more “bang for the buck.’
Q. What are your thoughts on those sauna suits (rubber or plastic) as a healthy way of losing fat?
A. This is a very important question that should have been asked a long time ago. People should be extremely careful about wearing one of those suits. Sure it encourages excess water (not fat) to be eliminated from the body. But only people in extremely good condition are highly trained, very fit and follow a very strict nutrition and training regimen should even think about doing this risky plan of action.
Body builders and fitness models might use this to pull out water in preparation for a photo shoot or competition. But I AM NOT suggesting that anyone else even try this. Your body temperature will increase significantly and the most you will do is lose water weight and not body fat. Once you eat again or drink fluids, your water weight will return. Side effects could include comprimised exercise routines, dizziness and massive dehydration.
Q. I workout all the time. I’m thin and very fit, but I still have that pouch around my midsection. How can this problem be fixed?
A. The first thing you should do is not focus on that area alone. Each person’s body has an ability to store fat in some areas more than in others. And, each body reduces fat proportionally from every inch of it. If you set your sites on obliterating that area day after day, you probably won’t see much progress. But, if you incorporate a routine of hitting the training hard and targeting all the parts of the body, you will not only increase lean muscle mass, but you will build a body that’s a fat burning furnace.
